Czech Republic, Zlin
- type: teaching ESL
- level: 3
- medical/political climate: low risk
Zlin is a city of about 80,000. Considering that only about 0.05% (400) of the citizens attend an evangelical church, it is clear there is a great need for more evangelical churches.
This project involves teaching ESL at a summer camp, alongside the MTW church-planting team, to children, youth, college-age students, and adults. Our desire and thrust is to build bridges through relationships, so that our sharing of the gospel will be credible and motivated by love for Czech people. Most who attend our classes and camps are non-Christians, nominal Christians, or are from a Roman Catholic background. These individuals primarily come because of their practical need for English . This leads to opportunities to build meaningful relationships which, we have seen, leads to opportunities to share the gospel so they listen. Team members can help begin and develop these relationships. A team size of eight to twelve is ideal for this particular project.
Germany/TEM: Berlin
• type: evangelism, teaching • level: 3 • medical/political climate: low risk
Current Ministries: Team Berlin has ministries in the following East Berlin districts: Marzahn, Pankow, Prenzlauer Berg and Köpenick. Those in Marzahn are forming a youth church, and have seen the fruits of multiplication through the gospel. Outreach programs include a gospel choir, basketball, concerts, and other special events. The ministry in Pankow has focused on forming cell groups in homes. In one year, the rapid growth has required expansion from one to three groups. Outreach includes teaching English and other community services. The Prenzlauer Berg portion of the team has been blessed with a family center as well as with new believers. Programs for children and their parents include Bible studies, the German version of Boy Scouts, and English classes. A new team in Köpenick has formed with two small groups committed to reaching their neighborhoods for Christ through playground outreach, English ministry, and inviting non-Christians to gatherings like BBQ parties.
Opportunities for short-term teams include outreaches and relationship evangelism as a part of the Teaching English Ministry. Team members would be partners for the participants and need to be willing and able to share their faith. > Download the Berlin English Camp brochure

Slovakia: Trnava
· type: evangelism
· level: 3
· medical/political climate: low risk
Trnava is a city of 80,000 residents situated in Western Slovakia near the borders of Austria and Hungary. It is widely known as the “Vatican of Slovakia,” and is a highly Catholic and, by extension, “Christian” area. There are many “forms of godliness” without the life-changing experience of a relationship with Jesus Christ.
MTW missionaries, John and Kathy Lesondak, have been living in Trnava for two-and-a-half years and have seen God open many doors of opportunity. One of these is the development of a teaching English ministry via personal relationships and conversational English classes with the 2,500 middle schools and high school students who study English there
Summer mission teams participate in weeklong English camps as a means of initiating, developing, and solidifying meaningful relationships with young people and introducing them to a relationship with God. The long-term missionaries will continue these relationships, and integrate seekers and new believers into home Bible studies and, as God provides, ultimately a new church-plant.
Spain
· type: evangelism, discipleship, music, ESL, sports
· level: 3
· medical/political climate: low risk
The culture of Spain is vibrant, open-minded, relational, increasingly skeptical, and historically Roman Catholic. Younger generations in Spain are increasingly interested in various forms of spirituality and many have a strong need to learn English. This is a relatively new MTW team with a small team of missionaries engaged in evangelism, discipleship, and university ministry. Short-term teams and interns are needed to help with evangelism and outreach. Currently there are limited opportunities for 2 week teams to engage with Spanish university students using conversational English/Spanish and sports as well as potential ESL possibilities. A majority of team members must speak at least intermediate level Spanish.
Sweden- Evangelism

· Possible confirmation camp ministry (with the Lutheran State Church)- similar to the school assembly with some recreation added. The goal is to develop contacts for the church-planting effort.
· Sports ministry- baseball, softball, basketball and soccer teams needed.
· Church ministry- Missions Covenant Church (singing and testimonies)
Teams will stay with host families or at a camp. Meals will be provided by the hosts in their homes, by the team itself, and at local restaurants. Although English is taught in school beginning in third grade, there will be a need for some interpreters.

Ukraine
· type: construction, evangelism, teaching, vacation Bible school
· level: 3
· medical/political climate: intermediate risk
Ministry in Ukraine began with short-term mission teams after the break-up of the Soviet Union. Church-planting teams arrived to gather and shepherd the people as a church community. Several years ago, the Ukrainian courts granted full ownership of a 100-year-old Reformed church building in central Odessa to the Evangelical Reformed Church of Odessa. This historic building had been the property of the state since the Bolshevik Revolution, 70 years earlier.
Currently MTW has ministries in Belgorod-Dnestrovski, Izmail, Kharkov, Kherson, Kiev, Nikolaev, and Odessa. The focus of these ministries includes training of Ukrainian church leadership, church planting, teaching English, outreach and evangelism, youth work, discipleship, Bible studies, mercy ministry, a medical clinic, and theological education.
Short-term teams are needed for teaching English camps, working with orphanages, and various forms of creative outreach (sports ministry, concerts, etc.) Team size of 10-12 is best.
Ukraine/TEM: Kherson
· type: teaching English
· level: 3
· medical/political climate: intermediate risk
Kherson is a picturesque city of about 500,000 located on the Dneper River and just east of the city of Odessa. Kherson has a number of educational institutions including an excellent music school, a marine college, a ship building school, and an agricultural college.
MTW missionaries, Nadia Asanova and Melinda Wallace, have been working in Kherson since July of 1998 following up on work started by a CoMission team that had served there during the previous year. God has blessed them with six small group Bible studies that are meeting weekly--one of which is studying English using the Bible. MTW missionary, Mel Pike, who is the team leader, and his wife Cindie, have been with the team since January 1999. For more information about any of these projects, contact the One to Two Week Department at 678-823-0004 or 2wk@mtw.org.
